The WB will not help the Burmese: "First pay their debts"

From "Liberation" May 21

The World Bank can not provide financial assistance or loans to Myanmar affected by the devastating cyclone Nargis (more than half a million displaced persons). A repeat was the same institution - the first of three days of mourning declared by the military junta, recalling that Myanmar has not repaid his debts. "Basically the situation is the same as that for the past decade. Myanmar is in arrears since 1998 and legally we are not allowed to lend to countries that have these arrears, "said spokesman Peter Stephens. All well documented, sin to pay the price (drama) insolvency are not the generals of the Burmese junta, but populations decimated by Cyclone Nargis.

I believe there is no need any comment.
